LAURIE INSURANCE AGENCY INC, a Trusted Choice agency, was opened by Bill Veulemans on July, 7, 1992, at the corner of 5 & O highways in Laurie.
When the agency first opened it primarily sold Medicare supplements, annuities, and life insurance. Within a short period of time, other lines of coverage were added. Today customers are served with many lines of coverage such as auto, home, boat, motorcycle, wave Runners, 4 wheelers, motor homes, Medicare supplements, life insurance, and commercial lines.
Bill grew up in the Tipton area just a few miles north of here. His family roots in the Gravois Mills area go back to before the lake existed. His grandfather had a mill in Gravois Mills that ran off the spring water from Troutdale Farm. It was located off the public ramp area in Gravois Mills.
Bill went to school in Tipton and graduated from Tipton High School. He then attended college at Central Missouri University and graduated with a degree in financial management. While in college, he joined the National Guard. Upon graduation Bill went to work for International Harvester Credit Corporation, and in 1976 he went to work for Veulemans elevator. He got his first experience selling insurance in 1979 by managing a branch office for City National Savings and Loan in Tipton. In 1985 he started selling health insurance and ended up working for Bankers Life and Casualty where he worked until starting Laurie Insurance Agency Inc.
At this time, Bill takes care of the Medicare supplements and part D coverage. The corporation has several different companies who have this type of coverage. He also works with the personal, commercial, and life insurance lines.
Lindsay Jo Veulemans, Bill’s daughter, started work part time in 1999 helping to modernize the office by going paperless. In 2006, she became a full time agent. Now she handles the entire commercial aspect of the business as well as helping with the auto, homeowners and life insurance.
Catherine Robertson joined the agency in 2007 and has been a great asset. Primarily she handles automobile, homeowner’s, life insurance and assists with all other lines. She also helps a lot on the computers.
